Further Down News

September 2007

Executive vice-president, Wes Phillips, has announced that Select-O-Hits and WoodShed Record, LLC has entered into a national record distribution deal to release Arkansas’ Further Down’s newest full length record, “7 Years Hard Luck”. The initial retail release includes over 17 States involving 140 chain and independent record stores in 58 major cities.

“We are always looking for the next big independent release and we believe we have found it in “7 Years Hard Luck” said Phillips. “This record is one the hottest rock records I have heard in years and Further Down is absolutely going to be a major player in the music industry over the next several years.”

Further Down is based out of Jonesboro, Arkansas and started their independent label, WoodShed Records, in 2007. The Band recorded “7 Years Hard Luck” in Memphis TN at the legendary Ardent Studios which was produced by Pete Matthews (Evanescence, North Mississippi Allstars, Devon Allman, Paul Simon). Mr. Matthews is credited with the development and signing of Arkansas multi-platinum artists EVANESCENCE to WIND UP RECORDS. The record features Rick Steff (Hank Williams, Jr., The Gin Blossoms) with keyboards on "Black & Bleach" and Susan Marshall (Lenny Kravitz, Afghan Whigs, Lynyrd Skynyrd) & Jackie Johnson are featured as backing vocals on "Get Your Rocks Off". The new songs are heavily influenced by the early sounds of The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd and have already received great reviews with substantial regional radio air play in Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri.

Select-O-Hits is located in Memphis TN and the company is one of the largest independent record distributors in the country, providing services for over 300 independent vendors to all key US music traditional "brick and mortar" retailers and digital media sites. The company is owned by Sam W. Phillips, Kathy Phillips Gordon and John Phillips, and was co-founded in 1960 by their father, Tom Phillips, and uncle, Sam Phillips, the legendary founder of Sun Records. Select-O-Hits’ sales offices and staff are located in Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Miami, Chicago, Houston and Seattle.

“We are very excited about working with Select-O-Hits”, said WoodShed Records, spokes person, Micheal Collins, “They are giving us the opportunity to get our music in major stores throughout the south and that’s pretty unheard of from a band coming out of Northeast Arkansas.”
