Stax Documentaries On Tap Soon

via Memphis Daily News

Memphis audiences soon will sample two new prominent documentaries about Stax, the city's famed record label that's the subject of a year-long retrospective this year by local tourism and entertainment officials.

"Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story," will get a screening Thursday at the Malco Paradiso, 584 S. Mendenhall Road. The documentary will be broadcast on WKNO-TV Channel 10 Aug. 1. Stax artists and the film's creators and producers will be on hand after the Paradiso screening to answer questions.

Another documentary, "The Stax Music Academy: From Soulsville to Italy," will be screened on July 31 in Studio A at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, 926 E. McLemore Ave.

The filmmakers and Stax Music Academy students and faculty will be on hand for a reception before the movie and will also be present afterwards. That documentary will be broadcast on WKNO Aug. 2.
