This year's SXSW started off with a late flight and a scramble to get registered in time for Bob Flanagan's interview with Pete Townsend. Well worth the effort...haven't seen Pete Townsend in person since The Who performed Tommy here in Memphis in the early '70s. One of the many things Pete talked about was Zach Starkey, the current drummer for The Who and son of Ringo Starr. Pete spoke of a musical chemistry between the the two of them and how well Zach works in the band. The first (and only) time I've seen him perform with The Who was the Concert for New York...Zach nailed it and I felt The Who were back with a vengence. Turns out that Keith Moon gave Zach his first drum kit when Zach was a little boy. Ringo Starr and Keith Moon, dad and mentor...what else was Zach to do?
